Legionella Risk Assessments
The Health and Safety Commission’s Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) L8 states that ‘a suitable and sufficient assessment is required to assess the risk of exposure to legionella from workplace activities and water systems in the premises’.
A reasonable foreseeable risk of exposure to legionella bacteria exists in:
Water systems incorporating a
cooling tower;
Water systems incorporating evaporative condensers;
Hot and cold water systems; and
Other plant and systems containing water which is likely to
exceed 20°C and which can
release spray or aerosol (i.e. a cloud of droplets and/or
droplet nuclei) during operation
or when being maintained.
Our assessment programme includes a thorough inspection of all water systems and water using plant - plus an audit of site management, procedures and records. The assessment will comment on the condition of plant and advise on any remediation necessary in order to reduce risk.
